The Ardrossan
wind farm has numerous references to a statement made by Councillor Margaret
Munn that " The Ardrossan wind farm has been overwhelmingly accepted
by local people.... we have found them to be silent workhorses." Closer examination shows that noise may well not be heard from Ardrossan because of the geography of the location. Ardrossan wind farm sits on hills above the town. The nearest homes are 2.3Km approx from the nearest turbine. The whole wind farm site is also down-wind from the town. Furthermore the busy main road ( A78 ) runs on a bypass between the town and the wind farm, this will generate considerable traffic noise. A town which is also a port for the western Isles is a far noisier place than our villages. The situation of the Ardrossan wind farm is totally different to that which we find for the proposed Woodlane wind farm. Pictures of the wind farm site show that it is in a moorland area and there are no homes in close proximity to the turbines. In short it looks like a near perfect site for a wind farm. A google earth picture is shown below of the network of roads put in for construction and maintenance of the farm. The roads and wind turbines are all readily visible on google earth. In summary the examination of the Ardrossan wind farm site led us to conclude 1. That reference to Ardrossan being quiet is irrelevant to the Woodlane proposals. 2. The road network on the photo shows how much construction will be required for site roads to support Woodlane wind farm. A road is required up to each turbine and around the site so we will have two roads across the fields between Roe Lane going nearly as far as West Haddlesey..
