9 Nov - Cleek Hall Wind farm Comments from people about the decision. |
Wind turbines are as well as, not instead of the power stations
Barlow, Birkin, Beal, Burton Salmon, Brotherton, Byram, Cliffe, Hillam, Monk Fryston, Hambleton, Thorpe Willoughby and West Haddlesey all had representatives present.
People care for the environment around Selby and are prepared to stand up against the threat that wind turbines could industrialise the countryside. Selby District has better ways to achieve and exceed renewable energy targets which are less damaging to the rural environment.
Nigel Adams MP

Well done to Selby District Council for turning down the application for a 5 turbine windfarm at Cleek Hall.
Some of the villagers before the meeting in the Selby Council Office.
I went to the meeting fearing that planning permission would be granted when the Planning Officer had recommended it. However, it was not to be and, as you say, the members of the Planning Committee seem to have their finger on the pulse. It shows that it needs a long and sustained campaign to overcome these proposals, we may have won the 'battle', but the 'war' is still far from over. But, success is very encouraging.

I thought the councillors spoke very well, reflecting the concerns of large numbers
those who elected them. Was really interested to hear the impact of the biomass project
voiced forcefully - this is SUCH a strong argument in the case against wind farms
in this area.
PS
Wonderful result and amazed by the councillors who had obviously researched and listened to the people of Selby area. I feel so much more hopeful that our wind farms will be similarly dismissed.
LI Monk Fryston
We won this battle, can we win the war ?
A good start to defeating the local crop of wind farms, but no doubt an appeal will follow.

“I am delighted that the Selby District councillors had the courage to support the people of Selby by refusing the application to erect five massive wind turbines near the River Ouse at Cleek Hall yesterday.
This sends a clear message to wind farm developers and also to central government - we have been told in the past we have to have wind energy sources, we’ve tried them, and the vast majority of people in the Selby District supported by their District Councillors have now said we don’t want any more.
There are far more efficient and much less obtrusive sources of renewable energy than wind. Selby already has some in place, with more such applications due in the near future - it is these that we should support.”
Tony Wray - Barlow
How planning meetings work
If you have never attended a planning meeting you should consider doing so.
If not you can watch a video from one in Hertfordshire where a single turbine was considered.
Wind turbines are unpopular everywhere - you can see from this why there are so few of them in South East England.
Scroll through for about 5 minutes to the proper start of the meeting. There is no sound at the start. You can skip through the speakers if you wish and just listen to the debate at the end, and watch the vote. The quality is impressive.
I’m so glad I was there to see first-hand the views of the committee. A great relief, but there is no room for complacency. Brilliant result. AC Beal
