36 giant industrial turbines proposed near Harrogate.

Previous news item.

Wind turbines are as well as, not instead of the power stations

Knabs Ridge wind farm near Harrogate was controversial when it was approved.

The 8 turbines have been operational for a few years but despite their elevated location they had a load factor of only 16.5% in 2009/2010.

The caravan park adjacent to the site has lost a lot of business. People complain about noise.

But there are now three proposals which would take the number of turbines to 36.

It was going to happen sooner or later and now it has – scoping applications that will result in a massive wind farm of 36 turbines in the Yorkshire Dales, west of Harrogate.

Kelda Water have submitted two scoping reports, one for 17 x 125m turbines at Scargill Reservoir and the second on adjoining land for 7 x 100m turbines; these are close on the heals of a scoping report for 4 x 115 turbines on adjoining land to the other two. These three proposed sites are adjacent to the current 8 x 97.5m turbines at Knabs Ridge. I have attached two maps that accurately combine all four and below are links to the individual scoping reports.

Seventeen x 125m turbines

Seven x 100m turbines

Four x 115m turbines

The impact of this across the Dales and the nearby Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty will be colossal.

Kelda Water are also relentlessly pursuing a wind farm at Chelker which if approved will loom over Bolton Abbey; they have also lodged an appeal against the planning refusal for a 50m anemometer mast, a precursor for a wind farm at Thornton Steward in Wensleydale – if approved this will loom over the grade 1 listed Jervaulx Abbey.

Wind of Change - Editorial comment from the Yorkshire Post

Turbines like these destroy the open countryside - and produce very little power.

It would need 4000 giant turbines to produce the same power as Drax, and even then Drax would still be required as back up for when the doesn’t blow.

17 More turbines proposed at Goole Fields

Even before any of the 16 turbines already approved at Goole Fileds have been built there is an application for another 17.
