Delivering and erecting the turbines.
The picture below shows the convoy delivering one crane to a wind farm site. A second crane is used to assemble the main crane and to assist the lifting of major turbine components. The main crane has to be capable of lifting 100 tons to a height of over 80m.
The picture on the right shows the first section of a wind turbine tower at Rusholme being lifted into place. The proposed Woodlane turbines have towers made up of four sections.
Base 16.5 m - weighs 56 ton
Second section - 20.9m - weighs 52 ton
Third section - 17.9m - weighs 34 ton
Fourth section - 21.7 m - weighs 29 ton
The nacelle to go on top includes the generator and weighs 97 ton.
